Top 5 things to do in Sydney this winter

It’s official, winter is upon us… The days are shorter, the air is crisp, temperatures have dropped (below 20) and lazy Sundays at the beach are behind us. But don’t fret, it’s not all so glum! Sydney is abuzz with fun activities all year round. Here are 5 winter activities you absolutely need to add to your to-do list!

1. Whale Watching

It’s Whale Watching season in Sydney! From Mid May through to December, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a relaxing day out on the water and get amongst the action. Watsons Bay and South Head are two of the best locations for sightings – we’re talking everything from Hump Back Whales, Southern Right Whales, Common Dolphins, Bottle Nose Dolphins and even Blue Whales!

2. Bondi Winter Magic

Thought Bondi was only good in summer? Think again! Winter Wonderland is coming to Bondi feat. an ice-rink right on the beach front and even the “Bondi Eye”! Think London Eye but ok we’ll admit, maybe slightly smaller. There will be an array of food stalls to browse afterwards, too. We’re sure you’ll have worked up an appetite by the time you finish skating your heart out!

3. Watsons Bay Winter Markets

There’s something so holiday-like about spending the weekend browsing through market stalls. Top that off with the backdrop of Sydney harbour and lush greenery of Robertson Park, and you have yourself a market unlike any other. This year the Watsons Bay Winter Market is held on June 3rd (this Sunday) so put it in your diary now! If you can’t make it, don’t stress… They’ll be back at Christmas for the Watsons Bay Twilight markets!

4. Enjoy Sydney’s most picturesque walks

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to coastal walks in Sydney. There’s Bondi to Bronte, The Watsons Bay Walk, The Gap and Federation Cliff walk, Spit to Manly… you get the gist. Winter is a great time to enjoy these walks without the summer crowds and uncomfortable heat. And since we are talking about winter in Sydney after all, there’s a possibility you could even heat up enough to take a dip in the ocean after your walk.

5. Have a seafood feast

Did you know seafood is actually better in winter? Well, it is! So it’s the perfect excuse to come visit us at Watsons Bay and enjoy one of our famous seafood dishes. We’ve got Australian tiger prawns, freshly shucked oysters, deluxe seafood platters… whatever tickles your fancy really. Worried it will be too cold to sit in Beach Club? You can enjoy your seafood feast with a glass of wine by the fire in Sunset Room! What a set up!
