Our Taste Orange Food and Wine Festival Tips
Sunday 7th May
Tamburlaine gives their tips on the ultimate experience at this week’s Taste Orange Food and Wine Festival in Watsons Bay.
For the fourth consecutive year Watsons Bay Boutique hotel is bringing the Country to the Coast in a waterside food and wine extravaganza. With food stalls, live entertainment, free face painting and a petting zoo, and multiple wineries on show, we spoke with Tamburlaine for tips on how to have the perfect vino adventure.
Q: What can Sydneysiders expect from a classic Orange red and white wine?
It is not a region of one or 2 excellent varieties but one that allows a broad range of classic varietals to show their subtlety and individuality.
Q: What type of wine is Orange famed for?
The Orange area is only just maturing as a premium viticultural region – the early story was about top quality Chardonnays, but there are more recent stories about Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Malbec which are emerging, to name a few. Our Tamburlaine Reserve Malbec is repeatedly taking out major wine show awards. We believe this wine is a great showcase of what the Orange region is capable of!
Q: What are the best type of questions a patron should ask wineries at the festival when sampling?
‘Which wine from Orange, other than your own, do you wish you had made?’
Q: What wines are you excited to showcase – and what food pairings do you recommend?
Antipasto or Thai salad with the 2016 Rosé; nibbles, and a few friends on a warm afternoon with the Pinot Gris (…how quickly did that bottle disappear?!)
Tamburlaine will have a stall at the food and wine festival – We are loving their ‘On the Grapevine’ Rosé which is also available on our Beach Club wine list!
Other iconic Orange wineries in attendance include:
Ross Hill | Phillip Shaw | Cargo Road | Slow Wine Co | Stockman’s Ridge
Angullong Wines | Small Acres Cider | Heifer Station | Logan Wines | Rowlee
Hot tip: Pre-purchase your tasting tokens and sampling cup online – less standing and queueing, more sipping and chewing!
