The Bay Soirée 2017

Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute

Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel held the third annual Bay Soirée event on Friday 17th March to raise funds for heart disease research.

The Bay Soirée is a luxe charity dinner held on Watsons Bay beach to raise funds for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. The inaugural event was first hosted in 2014, and it has since become one of Sydney’s most high-profile charity events raising over $60,000 for heart disease research this year alone.

Guests in attendance last Friday included ‘Dancing With The Stars’ judge Todd McKenney, TV presenter Tom Williams, fashion designer Rachel Gilbert, singer Michaeala Baranov and Sydney socialite Charlotte Holmes-a-Court.

All proceeds from the ticket sales and raffle prizes went to supporting young researchers who work alongside world class researchers in the areas of organ transplantation, congenital heart disease, epigenetics, molecular cardiology and stem cell biology. Heart attacks still claim the lives of 26 Australians every day – that’s one heart attack every ten minutes.

Despite the wet weather, guests were in good spirits as we moved the entire event undercover, inside our premium waterfront event spaces – Beach Club Dining and
Top Deck.

On arrival, guests sipped on Aperol Spritz, Heineken and Piper Heidsieck champagne, in a tropical oasis under 32 hundred lighting festoon lights.  Fotobox Australia were taking snaps on the night with guests uploading their pics to Instagram and using the hashtag #TheBaySoiree.

George & Smee; Sydney based event styling, furniture & prop hire company; kindly loaned their entrance arch that was decorated with amazing large Monsteria palms, and became the grand entrance into the dining room. Jane Lampe from Floreat Floral went above and beyond to ensure guests were engrossed in a tropical oasis by donating all the luscious palms and beautiful floral arrangements for the tables. Keeping in line with current trends, Jane decorated tables with stunning white orchids, gold spray painted palms and mini pineapples, encapsulating the tropical beach theme. Tables were set with beautifully designed menus, place cards and raffle booklets designed by Amy Mackay and printed by Plus 5 Media.

Dressed all in white, guests enjoyed a bespoke, decadent three course dinner developed by our Executive Chefs, inspired by our close proximity to the sea. The fresh seasonal fare was accompanied with premium beverages including Sand Tropez Rosé from Quattro Wine Group, Heineken 3, COPIA selection by Robert Oatley wines, and Santa Vittoria water.

Dessert mastermind Adriano Zumbo created a special treat to complete the evening – The Pineapple Express – a tropical taste explosion of pineapple cheesecake mousse, coconut, vanilla glaze with white chocolate decor and yellow glaze dots.

Flight Facilities lead vocalist and former X-Factor star, Michaela Baranov, serenaded guests with beautiful tunes throughout the evening, while Todd McKenney played host and MC for the night.

One of the highlights of the evening was the heart-felt, inspirational interview with Melissa Hargrave. Melissa had undergone a heart transplant in 2015, and her courageous story of recovery, strength and determination touched many people on the night. Watch the full story here.
